There comes a moment after a heartbreak that hurts a bit differently than the breakup itself.
It's the moment you realize that you're no longer the person they think about first. The stories you used to hear first are being told to another person. The good morning texts belongs to someone else. The little updates, the inside jokes, the excitement to share a memory or a song is no longer yours.
No one prepares you for that feeling.
You start to wonder if they're laughing the same way they would laugh with you. If they're creating new memories and relacing the ones you once dreamed about. You try to tell yourself not to compare, but your heart still asks the questions that your mind already knows the answers to.
Sometimes, if you're honest, you wish it was still you.
Not because you don't want happiness for them, but because you miss the version of your life where you were the first choice. You miss feeling important. You miss believing that your place in their world would and could never be replaced.
The hardest part is accepting that people keep living after they leave your story. They build new routines, meet new people, and create new chapters. And eventually, you will have to do the same.
Healing isn't about pretending it doesn't hurt. It's about admitting to yourself that it does, while choosing not to let the pain define your future.
One day, someone will choose you without the hesitation. You won't wonder where you stand or compare yourself to someone else. Until them, give yourself the love that you wish you could still receive with them.
Because your worth was never determined by whether someone stayed.
Maybe the real heartbreak isn't realizing you're no longer the only one. Maybe it's forgetting that you are still enough on your own while your next chapter is waiting to begin.
